Empathic Therapy for Adoption and Fostering Journeys
Because Every Story Matters
Fostering and adoption is a particular specialism and passion for me and I hope arriving at this page will be a significant moment for you. I have lived experience of adoption having been adopted as a baby in the 1970s. I understand some of the questions, struggles and pain you might be carrying as well as, for some of us, often positive feelings too. Over the last 2 decades I have encountered life from another angle - as a foster carer and special guardian. This has been a rewarding, but incredibly challenging experience and I am passionate about foster carers and adopters having the support and counselling that they need.
Adoption can leave deep and lasting impressions - some visible, others felt quietly beneath the surface. As an adopted adult, you may find yourself grappling with questions about your identity, belonging, loss, or connection, perhaps wondering why it still seems to matter after so many years have passed. In adoption counselling, there is space for your story, spoken or unspoken, joyful or painful, to emerge. Here you don’t have to explain what adoption ‘should’ feel like, only what it ‘does’ feel like for you. Together we can gently explore your experiences, honour your truths, and support you in making sense of your unique story.

Adoption Counselling FAQs
Who can benefit from adoption counselling?
If you are an adult who was adopted or fostered, an adoptive parent or carer or in the process of becoming one, then this might be for you.
How long does counselling take?
There is no ‘right’ amount of time. Some people benefit from a handful of focused sessions while others can stay in counselling for months, or even years. Everyone is unique.
Is adoption counselling confidential?
All our sessions will be completely confidential so you know that you can speak freely and honestly. There are rare cases, such as ‘danger of serious harm’ where confidentially might be broken, but this will be fully explained in your first session.
How do I schedule my first session?
Just go to the contact page or click on the numerous ‘Get in Touch ‘ buttons on our website. I try to get back to you quickly - usually within 24 hours - as I understand that waiting for a response can be difficult.
